Finally! A song where the basses have the toughest, most interesting line!
The song goes pretty fast so I have slowed the individual tracks down so you can hear the jazz rhythms and chords better. Listen to the full speed track to hear how fast the arranger suggests we sing this.
The basses have to sing both notes and chk-k-chk rhythm sounds. We (that would be Katrina) approximated the sound on the tracks with a percussion sound. Hopefully between the track and the videos you’ll get a good idea what it should sound like.
I have, as usual, suggested a couple of videos. If you go looking for more on your own, be sure you choose the Kirby Shaw arrangement without piano accompaniment. The ones that use the piano change the men’s line so they’re not singing the rhythm sounds, letting the piano take that instead.
We’re trying something new this season and adding a scan of the music to the rehearsal page. That way, you can start getting familiar with the music before we start rehearsals. You’ll be able to see the music and listen to the rehearsal files and watch videos before the season gets rolling. Also, during the season, if you should be seized with an urge to practice but don’t happen to have your music with you, you can just use your computer or smart phone to pull up the score. Music on the go! Just click this link to find a pdf of Carol of the Bells.
For playback, click the line you are interested in hearing. To “fast forward” or “rewind” just click and drag the end of the moving line. Click the pause button on the album cover to stop playback. If you’d like to download a track to your own computer, right click on the track line and follow the pop up menu instructions.
