A choral ensemble for the Central Oregon Coast
Audition Date Announced
Mary Lee has announced the date of our fall auditions. New singers can audition to join the group on Wednesday, August 22 from 4 to 6 pm in the music room of the Oregon Coast Community College Newport Campus. Auditions consist of some simple exercises to determine range, test for pitch matching and ability to follow rhythm patterns, and see how well you do singing with other voices. You may prepare an audition piece if you like, but it is not required. Although we don't require that you know how to read music to join the Chorale, it is strongly suggested that you do. If you can't make the set audition date but would like to sing with us, please email email@example.com to make special arrangements
Coming This Fall!
The Chorale has already begun a series of special summer rehearsals in preparation for the Newport Symphony Orchestra's anniversary celebration concerts coming up at the end of September. We--along with the Willamette Master Chorus and the Corvallis Repertory Singers--will be playing the part of "Chorus" in Beethoven's Choral Symphony, the glorious 9th. Mark your calendars for the September 29 performance in Newport or the September 30th show in Corvallis.
We're also looking forward to a series of holiday concerts in December. On December 8 in Lincoln City and December 15 in Yachats we will perform our annual Wishes & Candles concerts with holiday favorite songs and familiar carols. On December 16 we will perform a special version of the concert. In addition to some of the holiday pieces we will be singing John Rutter's "Gloria" with orchestral accompaniment at Newport's Performing Arts Center. It is a wonderful piece and we are very excited to be performing it for our central coast audience.
We look forward to seeing you at the concerts!
The Central Coast Chorale
The Central Coast Chorale was founded in 1997 by Mary Lee Scoville and several local residents so that we could enjoy singing in a convivial and professional setting.
Voices at the Coast
Our newest project, Voices at the Coast, is a summer day camp for teens studying small group, close harmony, a cappella singing. The Chorale believes strongly that we must support the musical education of the next generation of singers so we have worked to fund and organize this opportunity for local youth. Learn more at the link.
The Chorus generally performs three major concerts per year. This year we'll start off with two concerts in September with the Newport Symphony Orchestra and then we're planning a series of holiday concerts in December. We'll sing two programs in the spring session. Continue to our Events page to see upcoming performance details.
